April 2019: Australian Distilling Co are thrilled to announce that Adelaide Gin, the spirit that strives to capture the essence of Adelaide in a bottle, has received five global awards in just one month.
After officially being welcomed into the South Australian spirit market in March 2019, during the Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Gin has since been celebrated locally, nationally, and internationally.
Adelaide Gin has picked up a total of five spirit awards in the last month, including a silver medal at the prestigious San Francisco Spirit Awards and a gold medal at the Berlin International Spirits Competition. The expectation is that the gin will continue to be recognised as world-class both in Adelaide and elsewhere.
“We are ecstatic that Adelaide Gin, a product we’re incredibly proud of, is now being recognised as a premium spirit across the globe,” said Adelaide Gin’s founder, Michael Hickinbotham.
“The response so far has been incredible; it’s hard to believe that we only officially launched last month – although we’re not surprised to see that the rest of the world loves the taste of Adelaide as much as we do.
“It’s a first-class gin with a unique range of botanicals that reflects a beautiful city and I really think it’s thanks to our world-renowned gin distiller, Graham, that this gin is so fantastic.”
Adelaide Gin was born when self-confessed gin enthusiast, Michael Hickinbotham, partnered with well-respected and award-winning gin maker, Dr Graham Jones, to develop a unique gin that incorporates local and traditional botanicals.
The idea behind Adelaide Gin was to create a spirit that reflected the character of Adelaide. This is represented in every aspect of the gin, from the Kangaroo Island lavender flavour profile right down to the label, which reflects the copper that Adelaide Settlers built the city’s foundation on and was also recently awarded with a Gold Medal for label design at the Denver Spirit Awards.
Adelaide Gin is a true London dry gin, enhanced by local and traditional South Australian botanicals, and it took about a year of careful crafting to develop the recipe. Over 40 recipes were created and fine-tuned to create a gin that perfectly captured all that is Adelaide.
The gin was brought to life at the University of Adelaide still at the Waite Campus in South Australia and is still being distilled there under the watchful eye of Graham.
Adelaide Gin is available for purchase via the Adelaide Gin website or behind the counter at Adelaide’s favourite gin destinations. This is a gin that is best drunk as frequently as possible.
